You can fly to Morocco from many European and UK airports straight to Agadir. Flights are very reasonably priced & take around 2-4 hours. Taxi transfers from Agadir Airport can be arranged with us or there is a taxi rank at the airport. It takes around 45 minutes in standard traffic and costs 300 Moroccan Dirham. The bus from the airport is also available. If you arrive in Marrakech we can arrange transfer you. This takes around 4-5 hours. You can take the bus from Marrakech to Agadir with Supratours or CTM buses. It is around 100 dirham for this journey. Details of this can be found at :http://www.oncf.ma | http://www.ctm.ma

You can arrive on any day at Surf Therapy. Please let us know when you would like to arrive and we can check availability. We can help with arranging you a taxi transfer from the Airport to the surf camp, and from Surf cap to airport on your departure if you require.

You will need

  • Beachwear (swimsuit, sunglasses, sandals/flip flops, beach bag, beach towel)
  • Sunscreen (minimum 30+ however we recommend 50+ for surfing as you are in the sun for long periods)
  • Plastic bag (to transport your wetsuit.
  • Warmer Clothes (During December – February it can be cooler in the evenings & after surf at the beach)

You can book directly with us & pay your deposit via PayPal. The remaining balance will need to be paid in cash when you arrive with us in Morocco.

TOURIST VISA
Passport holders from EU, US, Australia and New Zealand must have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date. You do not require a visa to enter Morocco for tourist purposes & can stay for 90 days. Passport holders from outside the EU will need to check with your nearest Moroccan Embassy.

ENTRY FORM
There is an entry form to complete when you enter and leave, requiring your basic information (name, date of birth, occupation and passport details).

MOROCCAN ADDRESS
You will need to complete your Moroccan address – this will be Surf Therapy, Morocco, Tamraght, Agadir.

The local currency is the Moroccan Dirham. Current exchange rates are around 11 Dirham to 1€. When withdrawing cash, it is recommended to accept the local currency. There are exchange facilities & ATMs at the airport, Agadir and Aourir (close to Tamraght). Please note there is no ATM in Tamraght or Taghazout.

* Please note Traveller’s cheques cannot be exchanged at the airport or locally, and there are only a few places you can exchange these in Agadir, which typically do not offer a good exchange rate.

Arabic is the official language of Morocco however most Moroccans also speak French & in tourist areas the majority of Moroccans speak a good level of English. Where we are based the local Berber population speaks Tamazight. Here at Surf Therapy we speak Arabic, English & French.

During November to March the time zone is GMT +01:00 & March to October is GMT

We provide free WIFI at the camp. Many cafés and restaurants in the area also offer free WIFI.

We can provide the equipment you need within the surfer packages or separately for personal hire. This includes boards (soft, epoxy & polyester) & also wetsuits.

Morocco has sunshine most of the year, with a slight chance of rainy days between November to February. However this time is perfect for experienced surfers, as through these winter months Morocco offers some of the best waves in the world. There are also great spots for beginners to learn during this time. If you are a sunseeker you will love the summer time from April to October as it’s pretty much sunny everyday. At this time we have great waves for beginners to learn as these are small/medium waves.

We can cater for special requirements & ensure any food items you do not eat are excluded from your food. Just have a chat with us & let us know when you are booking.

Close to the camp, within a 5-10 minute walk, you can find small shops where you can buy water, soft drinks, sweets, chips, fruit, vegetables & cigarettes amongst other items. There are also pharmacies, surf shops, spa’s (for hammam massage & more) & stores to buy locally made Moroccan handicraft or local Argan Oil products.

The water here is fine for washing and brushing teeth. However we recommend you buy bottled water to drink in large quantities. This is really affordable at around 5 Dirhams for 1.5 litres and sold in most local shops.

Morocco is a relatively liberal Muslim Muslim country where foreign men and women wear shorts and short sleeved clothing. At the beach swimsuits and bikinis are fine however nudity is not allowed. It is ok to change at the beach however we ask that you are respectful to the local people and be discreet when changing. We recommend for women not to wear anything too revealing whilst walking around the town & for men to cover their upper body while walking around or and driving cars. During the winter especially, it can be cold at night. We advise you to bring some warmer clothes during this time such as trousers/jumpers.

Consumption of alcohol by Muslims is forbidden in Islam and alcohol is not available for sale in Tamraght. However it can be purchased in Agadir in stores until 8 pm. There are also some bars in the next town Taghazout that serve alcohol, this is just a 10 minute drive away.

Agadir is a bigger city and around a 25 minute drive from us. Here there is everything you would find in any European city. There are shops, supermarkets, ATMs, banks, souks (local market), hammams (massage), car hire, pharmacies, restaurants, cafés, bars & nightclubs.

We can provide dinner at the camp or you can take dinner out at a local restaurant. Sunsets here are always beautiful & can be enjoyed from our terrace or at the beach. You can try the local Moroccan Tea at a café. There is a local open mic night here in Tamraght & a great scene at the Taghazout skate park. For more choice there is a bigger nightlife in Agadir, not too far in a taxi.

You are welcome to visit with children here to join in the fun of learning to surf. However please note we do not have childcare options available at the camp.

We recommend suitable travel insurance before your trip to our surf camp. We cannot accept responsibility for loss, theft, damage or injury to persons or property during their stay.

No vaccinations are required for visitors to Morocco and anti-malarial precautions are not necessary.

Our staff are trained in administering first aid & we have a first aid kit on hand. In case of an emergency, there are hospitals and clinics in Agadir. We advise that you have travel insurance in place before you arrive as medical charges will apply according to the treatment received. There are many pharmacies here that should sell anything you may require & medications that are available without a prescription. However if you need something specific, please ask us at the point of booking.

If you rent a car you need to have a valid EU driving license with proof that you have been driving for at least one year. The law insists that you always carry your license and car hire documents with you when driving in Morocco.

Please be aware seat belts must be worn at all times and if you use your mobile phone while driving this is a finable offense. Police and gendarmerie checkpoints are common along the routes and you must slow down or even stop and wait for them to wave you through. Police also are around with a radar to catch drivers who are speeding. If you are caught & stopped this will be an on-the-spot payment. In Morocco, as in Europe driving is on the right. The main roads in the area are relatively new though they are generally narrower and may sometimes have bumps and potholes, especially after periods of rain.

The international country dialling code for Morocco is +212.

Morocco uses the European two-pin round on 220 volts. If you do not use these plugs please bring a suitable plug adaptor however you can also purchase here.
